The itinerary includes visits to the local markets, the famous Roman aqueduct Pont du Gard, the charming medieval village of Uzes and famous cities such as Arles, Avignon or Nimes. Culture and painting activates will be provided for both kids and adults.
When: Saturday April 4 through Saturday April 11, 2009. Enjoy one week adventure with other artists. This date could be changed if enough participants agreed on a new date.
Where: The art workshop will stay at The West Mill. This 18th century water mill with a private swimming pool and hot tub is set in a peaceful area with over 11 acres of private land, bordering the Gardon River, at the foot of the Cevennes Mountains. The West Mill is located 2 km from St. Jean du Gard, a traditional French village with weekly markets on Tuesdays. This region is the former home of many famous artists including Cezanne and Van Gogh. The West Mill has been owned and operated for over 7 years by Falls Church, Virginia resident Kirsten Apple. She will personally plan your trip so you can explore the back-roads tourists may miss. The local hosts will be Victor and Johanne, a retired couple from England who now live near the West Mill. They will prepare your breakfast and lunch daily as well as provide guide information on the region.
Who: The instructor will be Richmond Smith of Ashville, NC. Richmond has run his own business teaching private art classes to children, adults, and the developmentally disabled. In addition, he has taught children at various grade levels at the Literacy through the Arts Program from the Asheville Art Museum, and most recently at Westview Middle School in Goose Creek, SC. He holds a B.F.A in Studio Art (painting, sculpture) from Western Carolina University and an art education degree from University of North Carolina at Asheville.
